August 6-7, Biking to Bamberg

Home

Five brave American guys and almost all the Germans took off on Tuesday morning in the rain for the city of Bamberg, over 60 miles away.  As soon as we got out of the Fichtelgebirge the rain stopped and the sun came out for a while.  The riding was good and the way was beautiful.  All who went enjoyed the ride thoroughly.  They all rode 40 miles to the town of Lichtenfels, where the Gappies set up tents at a camp ground and went into town to enjoy the evening.  When they got back, it started to rain and it rained all night long.  When they got up it was still raining and most all of the Gappies decided that riding in the rain the rest of the way to Bamberg just wasn't worth it so we all took the train back to Gefrees instead of finishing our trip.  It was probably the right call as it has been raining ever since.  Such is the weather in Germany.  But we were all glad we had the one great day and it was worth it nonetheless.

Some stops were out of pure necessity.

The American guys have a harder time of it as Bryan accidentally sticks a pole though his head.

Tobias and Richy brave the bone-chilling water of the lake, not to mention the duck guano.
